Resizing photos & signatures: common questions
How do I resize an image in KB?
Set the maximum (and minimum, if the form gives one) file size and let the tool lower the JPEG quality step by step until the file fits. In ExamFitr, type the KB range or pick a preset, open your photo and download when the badge turns green. Pixel size decides the shape; KB decides the file weight, so fix the pixels first.
How do I reduce a photo to 50 KB?
Open the photo in an image resizer that targets KB, set the maximum to 50 KB and download the JPEG. A normal passport-style photo at a few hundred pixels wide fits comfortably under 50 KB at good quality. If the form also fixes the pixel size (IBPS asks for 200×230 px, 20–50 KB), set both — the tool then only adjusts quality.
How do I compress an image to 20 KB?
Crop tightly, set the exact pixel size the form asks for, then set 20 KB as the maximum. 20 KB is easy for a signature (IBPS: 140×60 px, 10–20 KB) but tight for a photo, so a photo usually needs a smaller pixel size. Portals count KB differently, so ExamFitr keeps files at or below 20,000 bytes.
How do I reduce photo size to 100 KB on my phone?
Open a browser-based photo resizer on the phone, choose your photo from the gallery, set the maximum to 100 KB and download. No app is needed: ExamFitr runs inside mobile Chrome or Safari and never uploads the picture. Phone photos are often 3–5 MB, so the tool also scales the pixels down if quality alone can't reach 100 KB.
How can I reduce photo size without losing quality?
Reduce the pixel dimensions to what the form actually needs before compressing — a 4000-pixel phone photo carries far more detail than a 350×450 px upload can show. Then use the highest JPEG quality that still fits the KB limit. Avoid re-saving the same JPEG many times, and never shrink below the requested pixel size.
How do I increase photo size in KB?
If a portal says the file is too small (for example below 10 KB or 20 KB), raise the JPEG quality or use the exact pixel size requested instead of a smaller one. ExamFitr also pads a JPEG with harmless metadata up to the minimum when the minimum KB is set, so the picture itself is not changed or stretched.
What is the size of a passport size photo in pixels?
An Indian passport photo is 35×45 mm. Pixels depend on the DPI you print or scan at: 413×531 px at 300 DPI, or 276×354 px at 200 DPI. The Passport Seva online upload is a separate digital spec — 630×810 px, 10–250 KB per the guidance we cite (a secondary source, so check the portal before uploading).
What is passport size photo in cm?
In India a passport size photo is 3.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm high (35×45 mm), with a plain white background and the face filling most of the height. Exam forms that ask for a 'passport size' photo usually still state the upload size in pixels and KB, so follow those numbers for the online form.
What is 3.5 × 4.5 cm in pixels?
Multiply the size in inches by the DPI. 3.5 cm is 1.378 in and 4.5 cm is 1.772 in, so at 200 DPI the photo is 276×354 px and at 300 DPI it is 413×531 px. If a form gives only centimetres, use the DPI it states; if it doesn't state one, 200 DPI is a common choice for uploads.
How do I make a passport size photo on my mobile for free?
Take a photo facing a plain wall in daylight, open it in ExamFitr, choose the India passport 35×45 mm size, remove the background to white and download. For prints, the Passport & print sheet section lays out copies on A4, 4×6 in or 5×7 in paper at 300 DPI with cut marks. It is free and works in a phone browser.
How do I remove the background of a photo for free?
Use an on-device background remover: ExamFitr runs an AI matting model inside your browser, so the photo never leaves your phone or PC. Click Remove background, pick white (or light blue if your form asks for it) and check the hair edges. A plain, evenly lit wall behind you still gives the cleanest result.
How do I resize a signature to 20 KB?
Sign in black or blue ink on plain white paper, photograph it flat in good light, crop close to the ink, then set the form's pixel size and a 10–20 KB range. ExamFitr's signature mode whitens the paper and darkens the ink, which keeps the file small and clear. Signatures reach 20 KB easily; the risk is going below the minimum.
What is the signature size for SSC?
For CGL/CHSL 2026 the SSC notice asks for a scanned signature of about 6.0 × 2.0 cm, JPEG, 10–20 KB; ExamFitr uses 472×157 px (that size at 200 DPI). The photograph is captured live in the application, so no photo file is uploaded. Check the notice for your specific recruitment.
What is the photo and signature size for IBPS PO?
IBPS's scanning guidelines ask for a photograph of 200×230 px at 20–50 KB and a signature of 140×60 px at 10–20 KB, both JPEG, plus a left thumb impression (240×240 px, 20–50 KB) and a handwritten declaration (800×400 px, 50–100 KB). Capital-letter signatures are not accepted.
What is the photo size for a PAN card application?
Protean (NSDL) asks for a 2.5 × 3.5 cm photo — ExamFitr uses 197×276 px at 200 DPI, up to 20 KB — and a 4.5 × 2 cm signature at 354×157 px, up to 10 KB. UTIITSL's portal uses different numbers that we have not yet verified from an official UTIITSL page, so follow the limits shown on its upload screen.
How do I change the DPI of an image?
DPI is a label stored in the file that tells printers how big to print it; it doesn't change the pixels. Open the image in ExamFitr's converter, type the DPI (for example 200 or 300) and download — the value is written into the JPEG or PNG header. If a form asks for size in cm, set pixels from cm × DPI too.
What is DPI in an image?
DPI (dots per inch) is how many pixels are printed per inch of paper. A 600-pixel-wide photo prints 2 inches wide at 300 DPI or 3 inches at 200 DPI. Upload portals mostly check pixels and KB, but some ask for a minimum DPI, so it is worth embedding the value they request.
How do I convert an image to JPG?
Open the image converter, add your PNG, WEBP, HEIC (iPhone) or TIFF files, choose JPG and download. Transparent areas get a white background because JPG has no transparency. Most exam and government portals accept only JPG/JPEG for photos and signatures, so convert before you resize.
Why is my photo not uploading in the application form?
The usual causes are a file above the KB limit, a file below the minimum, the wrong pixel size, or a format other than JPG. Some portals also reject files with odd names or very old browsers. Check the error text, set the exact pixels and KB range from the notification, save as JPG and try again.
Is KB bigger than MB?
No. 1 MB is about 1,000 KB (1,024 in the binary convention), so a 3 MB phone photo is roughly 150 times larger than a 20 KB limit. That is why photos must be resized and compressed before upload, and why forms quote limits like 20–50 KB rather than megabytes.
How do I resize a photo for an online form?
Read the notification for three numbers — pixel size, KB range and format — then set them in a photo resizer, crop so your face is centred, fix the background if required and download. ExamFitr has presets for SSC, IBPS, UPSC, NEET, JEE, PAN, passport and more, each with the source and the date it was checked.
Can I upload a photo with glasses (specs) for UPSC?
UPSC's upload instructions reject photos where the eyes are hidden by coloured or dark glasses and ask you to avoid glare on eyeglasses; plain clear glasses are not listed as banned. Other forms differ — SSC's live photo is captured without spectacles — so follow the notification for your exam.
How do I resize a photo in cm?
Choose the unit (cm, mm or inches), type the width in the physical-size box and set the DPI; ExamFitr converts it to pixels and keeps the height in proportion. For example, 3.5 cm at 200 DPI becomes 276 px wide. Embed the same DPI in the file so it prints at the right size.
What is the photo size for a US visa?
The US Department of State asks for a square JPEG between 600×600 and 1200×1200 pixels, 240 kB or less, in colour on a plain white or off-white background, with the head filling 50–69% of the image height. Printed photos are 2 × 2 inches.

About ExamFitr
Is ExamFitr free? Do I need an account?
It's completely free and needs no sign-up. Open it and start — no watermark on your output.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing, compression, cropping and background removal all run inside your browser. Even the AI model and libraries are loaded from this website, not a third-party CDN. Your files never leave your device.
Can it make my photo an exact KB, like 50 KB?
Yes. Set a target and ExamFitr tunes the JPEG quality — and pads the file when needed — to land inside the exact KB range portals require.
Which formats can I upload?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP and BMP, plus iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos and TIFF scans, decoded automatically in your browser.
Are the presets official?
Each preset shows whether it came from the official notification or a secondary summary, with the source link and date. Specs change every cycle, so always verify with the latest official notification.
Does SSC still need a photo upload?
No — SSC's 2026 notices capture a live photo during the application. Only the signature (10–20 KB) is uploaded.
Why does the tool treat 20 KB as 20,000 bytes?
Some portals count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, others as 1,024. ExamFitr keeps files at or below max × 1,000 bytes and at or above min × 1,024 bytes, so the file passes either way. “Make it exactly N KB” produces exactly N × 1,024 bytes.
How does it hit an exact KB range?
It resizes to the exact pixels, then binary-searches the JPEG quality to find the largest file under the maximum. If even top quality is below the minimum, it adds harmless padding bytes (a JPEG comment) — the picture itself doesn't change.
Can I make a thumb impression or handwritten declaration?
Yes. Pick your exam (IBPS, RBI, LIC and others) and switch the document type to Thumb or Declaration. The ink clean-up tools (auto-crop, whiten paper, darken ink) work for them too.
How do I print passport photos at home?
In Photo mode open “Passport photos & print sheet”, choose the print size (India 35×45 mm, US 2×2 in, UK, Schengen, Canada or stamp) and paper (A4, 4×6, 5×7 or Letter). Download the sheet as JPG or PDF and print at 100% / actual size.
Does background removal work offline?
After the first use, yes — the model is cached by your browser. The model is downloaded from this website (not a third-party server) the first time you press Remove background.
Why is there no Aadhaar photo preset?
Aadhaar photos are captured at the enrolment/update centre and can't be uploaded online, so a resizer preset would be misleading.
The preset doesn't match my notification. What should I do?
Follow the notification. Paste its requirement into the “Not listed?” box and the tool configures itself — and please tell us through the Contact page so we can update the preset.
