Banking forms made the four-file upload standard: photo, signature, left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration. A few other exams ask for thumb or finger impressions too. These two images trip people up because they are unfamiliar. Here are the official sizes and a way to make each one cleanly.
Official sizes
| Exam | Thumb or finger impression | Declaration |
|---|---|---|
| IBPS, SBI, RBI, LIC | Left thumb, 240 × 240 px (3 × 3 cm at 200 DPI), 20–50 KB | 800 × 400 px (10 × 5 cm at 200 DPI), 50–100 KB |
| NEET UG | Fingers and thumbs of both hands in one image, 800 × 600 px, 50–200 KB | none |
| NEET PG (NBEMS) | Thumb inside a 3.5 × 1.5 cm box at 200 DPI, under 80 KB | none |
| HTET | Thumb impression, 10–30 KB | none |
IDBI Bank, the NABARD Young Professional programme and India Post Payments Bank use the same bank format; see the banking page for their sources.
Making a clean thumb impression
- Use a stamp pad with black or blue ink, as the bank annexures ask. Too much ink fills the ridges and turns the print into a blob; press the thumb on the pad once, lightly.
- Roll the thumb gently from one side to the other on plain white paper, pressing evenly. Don't twist or drag.
- Make two or three prints and choose the clearest.
- Photograph or scan it straight-on in daylight. Fill most of the frame with the print.
- For the bank format, crop to a square around the print and size it to 240 × 240 px.
If you don't have a left thumb, the bank notifications explain what to use instead (usually the right thumb). Follow your notification.
Writing the declaration
The bank notifications give the exact text of the declaration. Copy that wording from your notification, not from a website, because the text can change between recruitments. The rules that stay the same:
- Write it in English, in your own running handwriting.
- Not in capital letters. Declarations in capitals are rejected, just like signatures.
- Use black ink on white paper.
- Write it yourself. A declaration written or typed by someone else is not accepted.
Write it inside a 10 × 5 cm area if you can, or at least in that proportion (2:1). A long declaration squeezed into a tall block becomes unreadable once it is resized to 800 × 400 px.
Photographing the declaration
Treat it like a signature: daylight, no flash, phone held parallel to the paper. Then open it in the editor with your exam's preset and choose Declaration. It crops to 2:1, whitens the paper, darkens the ink and lands the file in 50–100 KB. The declaration is the one bank image that rarely has trouble reaching its minimum, because handwriting has plenty of detail.
NEET UG's finger and thumb image
NEET UG asks for the impressions of all fingers and both thumbs on one sheet. Leave space between the prints so they don't touch, and photograph the whole sheet in one shot. The editor's NEET UG preset sizes it to 800 × 600 px.
